fk-140wh1Ceramic knives are lightweight and maintain their sharpness for much longer that traditional high carbon steel knives. Although the traditionalists are not too convinced yet, the Ceramic knife movement is well under way and is growing across the globe slice by slice.

Like diamonds and sapphires, the elements of ceramic are formed in nature through thousands of years of crystallization, extreme temperatures and literally tons of pressure. The result is a pure, dense, unrelenting material that is harder than steel, close to diamond in hardness.

Will a ceramic knife break or shatter if I drop it? Any knife is at the risk of being damaged if not handled correctly. Follow a few basic knife care rules and you will be assured of your knife’s longevity. Read more on ceramic knife care here.

We managed to find an interview with Chef Ming Tsai where he talks about one of his favourite knives, the Kyocera FK-180.

Ok, not quite a roadshow, but something with just as much awesomeness.

I must say the design process has been a real treat – the tactile element of ink sketches and sample photographs has been a nice break from most of the other design stuff we do on computer screens!

We’ll keep you updated as to the where and whens, but we look forward to seeing you all face to face.

Need to bring in the ‘big guns’ to encourage your children to savour their peas and broccoli? The Construction Eating Kit consists of a bulldozer pusher, fork lift fork, and front loader spoon and will turn little Johnnie’s meal time into a Bob the Builder feeding frenzy.

We’re not sure if these big food movers will ever be available in SA – if you can get your hands on them, they will be a cool addition to the dinner table!
