Poachpod

How handy is this clever device? It's an egg poacher for the busy yuppie on the run. Picture this - instead of fussing with oil and pans and all that unhealthy nonsense in the morning, simply boil a pot of water, drop in the poachpod and crack an egg.

It may look like a piece of face-saving equipment Jacques Kallis will not be using for a while, but it'll cook your egg quick quick.

Designer Josh Owen has put some thought into redefining the common bar/cocktail measure.

According to the designer: "the design of the Aluminum Cube Jigger evolved from an experiment to compress the six most common liquid measures used to mix alcoholic drinks, into the smallest possible dispenser. the form was inspired by traditional box-shaped, Japanese sake cups, from which sake is sipped from the corners."

We thought these Nemo Whisks were a nice change from the standard whisk designs. They kind of remind us of the brightly coloured fishing lures that we once used when we tried our hand at a bit of fishing.

ART & COOK have taken the art of kitchen tool design to a new level - these amazing tools, that when viewed in their black and white collection have an almost victorian, gothic feel which we find rather appealing. They also come in an assortment of bright funky colours.

The Yuppiechef team is doing some investigation into the availability of these products in South Africa, so if we find them, we'll let you know. (In the picture from left to right - citrus reamer, masher, twirl whisk, egg whisk, jet whisk and pizza roller)

What is unique about Art and Cook?

While air is in the handle, zinc is in the core. A strong, durable material that is resistant to stains and scratching, zinc provides a long, maintenance-free life for more than 60 years. The weight of this metal allows the tools to work more efficiently, reducing the need for users to exert excessive force when completing the cooking tasks at hand.

We came across this Skull toaster a while ago and couldn't resist not sharing it with you. It works exactly the same as a normal toaster, the only difference being the way it toasts. So instead of the usual golden tan on your favourite white bread, you end up with the Jolly Roger! Struggling to get your yuppie kids to eat breakfast? This is the business.

Band it

Written by Shane in Kitchen Tools we like

So why on earth would we feature a box of Band-Aid on a blog that is exclusively reserved for ultra cool cooking tools? It's quite simple really - when you upgrade your old kitchen knives with a super sharp Global knife, this little box of tricks will become an essential item in your kitchen cupboard.

So, for those of you who have already sliced and diced your index finger with your new knife…rest easy, even the hardened celebrity chefs let their knives slip once in a while.

We thought it was only fitting to introduce you to the new Eva Solo Fridge Carafe seeing as one appears on this blog's header. For those of you yuppie chefs that have never heard of a Carafe, here's a quick lesson so you can sound supa clued up at your next dinner party -

Carafe [kah-raf] is a wide-mouthed glass or metal bottle with a lip or spout, for holding and serving beverages.

The cool thing about the Eva Solo Fridge Carafes is their ultra slick neoprene covers (wetsuit material); so stunningly good looking that we wouldn't be surprised if they appear in the next Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Calendar Edition.

The Eva Solo Fridge Carafes have only recently hit SA shores and are now available in five colours on Yuppiechef.co.za

Chevy V8 Griller

Here an outdoor cooking appliance that Jeremy Clarkson-wannabes, instead of our usual Gordon Ramsey aspiring clientele, would really get hot for.

Chevy V8 Griller

It's a Chevy V8 engine block, which has been modified into a BBQ grill. No wood needed here, as you would expect everything runs on gas.

Make of it what you will - but we're going stick to our Rooikrans stompe, half-oil-drum braai and Blue Bulls drinking helmet. [via]

We've featured a few ultra braai (grill) products over the last while and we think this wicked little addition will get the guys talking before you've even fired up the barbie! Now that you've got the right grill gear, you certainly don't want to waste any energy striking a match - this is where Lucifer makes things easy.

To strike a match you turn it upside down and shake. Once the wood of the match appears, you pull it out and the match will ignite. Simple.

You don't see something like this everyday…looks like something straight out of an alchemists lab. We like anything that can produce an excellent brew and this contraption certainly catches our attention.
